Mountaineers Win Season Opener

         The Berea men’s basketball team opened their season against Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, Kentucky with an 82-64 victory. Leading the charge for Berea College was Darrin Dorsey with 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Chase Wofford led the team in rebounding with 11 and also contributed 15 points and 4 blocks. Rudy Evans has a solid stat line having 12 points, 6 rebounds, team leading 5 steals, and 3 assists. Kevin Burrus led in assists with 5 and also gave the team 9 points. Other players contributing in the scoring department were Josh Clark with 9 points, Lathan Bennett with 7 points and Joey King had 3 points.

         First year head coach, John Hemenway, commented “Overall, I am pleased with our effort today. I thought for the most part we competed and tried to defend, and that was definitely one of our goals this afternoon. Kentucky Christian is going to have a good year, so to get a road win in our first game is very satisfying.”

        Next up for the Mountaineers is nationally ranked #24 Indiana Wesleyan Friday, November 5th in Marion, Indiana in the Dimmich Memorial Tournament. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm EST. Berea will play Saturday afternoon against either Ashford, Iowa or East-West out of Chicago pending the result of the Indiana Wesleyan game.
