The Berea College Mountaineers found themselves down at halftime with a 42-24 deficit to the Grenadiers of IU Southeast, but were able to chip that lead down to 54-51 with 9:28 to go in the game after a three-point basket by junior forward Josh Clark. The Mountaineers would come up short at the end falling to IU Southeast 79-55. Berea College shot 21-55 (.382) from the field including 7-26 (.269) from the three-point line and 6-17 (.353) from the free throw line. The Mountaineers outrebounded the Grenadiers 38-37.
Senior guard Rudy Evans led the Mountaineers in scoring and assists with 16 points and 6 assists. Trey Congleton was also in double figures scoring 13 points and grabbed a team high 9 rebounds. Josh Clark and Kevin Burrus both chipped in 9 points along with Clark ripping down 7 rebounds and Burrus also dished out 5 assists. Other Mountaineers in the scoring column were Derek Davis scoring 6 points off two three-point baskets and Ardell Wheeler with 2 points.
The Mountaineers currently sit with an 11-9 overall record and are 2-2 in the KIAC. Berea College will be on the road Tuesday, January 25th at 7:30 pm as they face the Eagles of Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Pappes, Kentucky.
