Mountaineers Win Shootout against Alice Lloyd

The Berea College Mountaineers got a huge KIAC road victory over Alice Lloyd College Tuesday night defeating the Eagles 98-88. Berea had one of its best offensive games of the season shooting 38-62 (.613) from the field including 13-25 (.520) from the three-point line and 9-14 (.643) from the free throw line. The Mountaineers won the rebounding battle 36-35 and dished out 32 assists.

The Mountaineers had two players with career nights and two others scoring in double figures last night with Rudy Evans leading the charge with a career-high scoring 31 points, distributed 9 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds. Evans was 12-17 from the field including 5-9 from the three-point line. Derek Davis also had a career-high 27 points shooting 9-15 from the field including 7-11 from the three-point line and dished out 4 assists. Trey Congleton recorded a double-double laying in 18 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. Kevin Burrus chipped in 13 points and handed out 6 assists in the Mountaineer victory. Josh Clark added a solid performance of 7 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Ardell Wheeler rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

Coach Hemenway commented after the game, “The guys played about as well as we could have asked. To go on the road and win a KIAC game in a hostile environment is a tremendous accomplishment. This should boost our confidence level for the rest of the season. I am proud of our effort.”

Berea College now improves their record to 12-9 overall and 3-2 in the KIAC. The Mountaineers will return to Seabury Arena for a weekend home stand against Indiana University East and Brescia University. Berea College will face Indiana University East Friday, January 27th at 7:30 pm and will turn around Saturday, January 28th to take on Brescia University at 4:00 pm.
