Berea College came away with a 73-71 overtime victory on Saturday, February 5th after a missed half-court heave as time expired by Cincinnati Christian. The Mountaineers shot 24-64 (.375) from the field including 7-21 (.333) from the three-point line and 18-24 (.750) from the free throw line. Berea College won the rebounding battle over the Eagles 46-45.
The Mountaineers had four players score in double figures and were led by senior guard Rudy Evans tallying 26 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Kevin Burrus contributed 16 points and 6 rebounds. Josh Clark and Trey Congleton both recorded double-doubles with Clark chalking up 12 points, including the first six points in the overtime period, also grabbed 11 rebounds and Congleton had 11 points and 11 rebounds. The other two Mountaineers in the scoring column were Derek Davis with 5 points and Lathan Bennett with 3 points.
The victory now moves Berea into 4th place in the KIAC standings and three games behind league leader IU-Southeast. The Mountaineers will be in action Tuesday, February 8th at 7:30 pm at Seabury Arena as they face off with the Eagles of Alice Lloyd.
