The Mountaineers entered Saturday’s game winning four out of their last six games and were playing some of their best basketball this season, but it did not appear that way against Indiana University East. Berea College found themselves down 19-4 after just three minutes of play due to the outside shooting of IU East’s wings Matt Trimnell and Tyler Rigby. The Mountaineers did get themselves back into the game going into halftime down 40-34, but the Red Wolves extended their lead at the beginning of the second half to put the game out of reach for Berea College. The Mountaineers would fall to the Red Wolves 76-52 making their overall record 15-12 and 6-5 in the KIAC.
Leading the Mountaineers was senior guard Kevin Burrus who finished the game with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Rudy Evans was the only other Mountaineer scoring in double figures with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Josh Clark chalked up 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Trey Congleton led the team in rebounds with 10 boards and chipped in 5 points. Other Mountaineers in the scoring column were Ardell Wheeler with 5 points and 5 rebounds, Brad McIntosh with 3 points and Derek Davis scoring 2 points.
The Mountaineers will be on the road Tuesday night February 15th as they face KIAC foe Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky. Tip-off is set for 8:00 pm.
